David has enjoyed a very successful European Tour career having turned professional in 1986 after winning the English Amateur Championship in 1984 and subsequently competing in the 1985 Walker Cup.
The Crewe-born professional boasts 6 European Tour titles including a successful defence of the Moroccan Open firstly winning it in 1992 before winning it 12 months later in 1993, one of the two trophies he won that season. His 9th place finish in the European Tour Order of Merit in 1991 was enough to give David his first automatic selection for the European Ryder Cup team.
'War on the Shore' in 1991 was a difficult rookie Ryder Cup for David but he secured a half point in his singles match as the team went down by 13.5 to 14.5. However with 5 tournament wins in the subsequent three years David was again selected for the 1995 American rematch in the Ryder Cup at Oak Hill. This time with the experience of 1991, David, playing alongside Ballesteros and Langer secured 3 out of a possible 4 points including a singles win on the Sunday afternoon which helped the team to victory and saw the Ryder Cup come home to Europe.
Nowadays as David has turned 50 he will be competing alongside the likes of fellow Champions of Golf players Gary Wolstenholme and Paul Broadhurst on the European Seniors Tour.
