2016 John Jacobs Champion starts season with top 6

Paul Broadhurst, who won the 2016 John Jacobs trophy on the European Senior Tour after topping the Order of Merit after the final event of the season the MCB Tour Championships, got his 2017 season off to a good start as he finished 6th at the Sharjah Senior Golf Masters.

Despite having already played a handful of events on the PGA Tour Champions in America, this was the first event Paul has competed in on the European Senior Tour in 2017. The first event of the calendar, the Sharjah Senior Golf Masters presented by Shurooq at the Sharah Golf and Shooting Club, is the first event on the European Tour to be played over a 9 hole course and the first time since 2000 that the European Senior Tour has returned to play in the United Arab Emirates.

The event, which finished on Saturday 18th March, has been hailed as a roaring success with attendance figures high and significant coverage across Sky Sports television.

Paul opened the week with a two under par round of 70 on day one which left him in a tie for 17th place after a day of strong scoring. However better was to come and on day two 'moving day' Paul fired six birdies with a single bogey for a 67 which now saw him elevated to 4th place, three shots behind overnight leader James Kingston.

Harder greens and tucked pin positions meant making a score on the final day was significantly harder that it had been on the previous two days. Paul rounded off his week with another two under par 70 giving him a nine under par total for the week and 6th place on his own.

This was a solid start to the season for the Total Motion Vehicle and Fleet Management ambassador who will now head back to America to continue playing on both sides of the pond in the remainder of the 2017 season as he bids to replicate his success from 2016.

Congratulations Paul and good luck for your next event - The Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic (31st March - 2nd April) on the PGA Tour Champions.
