This week on tour Champions of Golf are represented on three tours as well as at three of the four qualification events for the Open Championship where over 200 players are competing for a handful of spots at this years third major and the first on British shores, the 144th Open Championship, this year to be held at St Andrews, the Home of Golf.
Its there we start with this round up. Competing in the 36 hole event are Scott Henry, Gareth Wright, Paul Broadhurst and Scott Arnold, unfortunately Peter Baker and Jason Palmer have both had to withdraw this week.
With only three spots available at the Open for each of the four qualification venues all the players will have to be on their game for both rounds and none more so that Gareth Wright and Scott Henry who are both competing at Glasgow Gailes as Champions of Golf hope to claim two thirds of the spots available. A little further south Scott Arnold is looking to play in his first Open Championship as he bids to qualify at Hillside Golf Club. The final player in contention for a major appearance is Paul Broadhurst. At the other end of the geographical spectrum to his fellow Champions of Golf professionals, Paul is taking part in the qualification tournament on the east Kent coast at Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club.
Live scoring is available through the Open Championship website at http://www.theopen.com/Qualification/FinalQualifying
One player not at Open qualifying is Scotland's Neil Fenwick, who after a great start to the EuroPro season is once again in Scotland at Montrose LInks Golf Club taking part in the Eagle Orchid Scottish Masters event. Beginning on Tuesday and with the final round taking place on Thursday, Neil is currently 24th on the Order of Merit but with a string of strong performances already this season, Neil will be hoping to fly up the leaderboard, with the ultimate aim of securing his European Challenge Tour card for 2016.
Once Scott Arnold finishes his Open Qualifying adventure he will turn his attention back to the day job as he flies out to Germany for the Aegean Airlines Challenge Tour by Hartl Resort. Having gained an invite to the SSE Scottish Hydro Challenge last week, and making the most of it to finish in a tie for 30th position, Scott is once again taking to the Challenge Tour fairways.
The final Champions player in action is Gary Wolstenholme MBE who after a week at home, whilst some of his European counterparts were playing at the US Senior Open at Del Paso Country Club, is fully fit and ready for the Swiss Seniors Open held at Bad Ragaz in Switzerland. Gary is currently 23rd on the Order of Merit however having played in this tournament four times and never finishing outside the top 10 (2011 3rd, 2012 10th, 2013 5th, 2014 9th), and so will be keen to maximise this week to boost his ranking and secure playing rights for 2016.
Live scoring from Switzerland can be found on the European Senior Tour website at http://www.europeantour.com/seniortour/season=2015/tournamentid=2015876/...
Good luck to all the Champions of Golf players in action this week.
