Scott Jamieson joins the world golf elite as he participates in his first Volvo World Matchplay Championship.
Opened just two years ago in 2011, you could say that Thracian Cliffs this weeks venue was always destined to become a World Match Play course.
Designed by legendary Gary Player, winner of five World Match Play Championships between 1965 and 1973 and a beaten finalist in 1974, the famed South African’s Signature course is clearly exposed, often undulating and boasts numerous stunning changes in elevation from tee to green.
At 7,291 yards and playing to a par of 72, Thracian Cliffs certainly offers plenty of risk and reward opportunity for the likes of Scott to take on this week in the 48th edition of the Volvo World Match Play, 50 years after Arnold Palmer triumphed in the inaugural edition in 1964.
Scott has been drawn in the Mark McCormack group against Carl Petterson and Thorbjorn Olesen. The format of the week is a round robin on Thursday and Friday, where Scott will play traditional Matchplay against both Carl and Thorbjorn with the two men who achieve the most points going forward to the knockout stages; these take place over the weekend 18th and 19th May.
You can follow all of the action on Sky Sports and also keep up to date with all the live scores at www.europeantour.com.
Best of luck Scott!
