Champions of Golf are very proud to confirm signing former Ryder Cup star and legend of the European Tour, Paul Broadhurst.
Paul joins our growing roster of golfing talent at an exciting juncture in his career as he prepares to join the European Senior Tour this coming August. Given the form he’s been showing in pro-celebrity tournaments of late, he’ll be looking to challenge for honours from the outset.
Paul enjoyed a lengthy career at the top of the game, having played almost 600 tour events. He first shot to fame in his 1989 pro-debut season when he won the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award. That same year he won the Credit Lyonnaise Cannes Open on just his ninth tour appearance and from that point did not look back.
Playing at the closely-fought 1991 Ryder Cup at Kiawah Island, nicknamed ‘The War on the Shore’, he won both his fourball alongside Ian Woosnam OBE and beat Mark O’Meara in the singles. In 1993 he triumphed over a high class field at the Benson & Hedges International Open and followed that up in 1995 with victory at the French Open, dubbed by many as ‘the Fifth Major’.
Defending a title is a rare achievement in golf but, having won the Portuguese Open in 2005, Paul returned in 2006 to lift the trophy once again. The player’s quality can be measured by the fact that only World No.1 Rory McIlroy has ever managed to match his St. Andrews Open Championship course record of 63.
Champions of Golf will work not only to manage his Senior Tour debut but also to identify ambassadorial opportunities for Paul along with engaging him in corporate golf events and further establishing his burgeoning reputation on the after dinner speaking circuit.
Upon signing the agreement with Champions of Golf, Paul said “I’m very pleased to be joining Champions. I’ve heard lots of positive things about the agency from people in the golfing world, not least from my good friend Peter Baker who has benefitted greatly from his association with them. Their team look after a wide range of stars from sports and entertainment and, as a local lad, I hope to build long-term relationship with Champions.”
Matthew Hayes, Managing Director of Champions (UK) plc, spoke of his delight at signing Paul. He said “We are really excited to welcome a golfer of Paul Broadhurst’s calibre and reputation on board. He’s been a terrific player for a number of decades and has an exemplary standing in the game. We wish him the very best as he joins the Senior Tour later this year and will bring all of our knowledge and experience to bear in advancing his career.”
