In the heat of battle Gary returns best result of the year

Even with circa 30 degree temperatures in Mauritius for this year’s European Senior Tour MCB Tour Championships, Gary Wolstenholme kept his cool to record his best finish of the 2015 season, a tie for 7th.

The three time European Senior Tour title winner has had an uncharacteristically average season by his own exacting standards and headed to Mauritius in search of a strong finish. Heading into the week in 32 position on the Order of Merit and with the threat of the new Strategic Review meaning only the top 20 would secure their cards for 2016, the pressure was really on. However the Walker Cup match play king is not one to shy away from a challenge and he grasped the opportunity with both hands.

Opening with a steady one under par round of 71 Gary was still well in contention after the first day and even a level par 72 on day two didn’t stall his progress. Yet if he was going to make serious inroads into those ahead of his he needed a strong final round and what a performance he gave. A stunning four under par 68 which included a birdie birdie finish propelled Gary up eight spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 7th position overall, his best finish for the European Senior Tour 2015 season.

The finish got Gary into 28th position on the Order of Merit, which isn’t high enough for an automatic card for 2016, so Gary in January will head to European Senior Tour Qualifying School final stage as he bids to claim one of the top 5 cards and earn his place back on tour for 2016.

Massive congratulations to Gary for Mauritius and the rest of the European Senior Tour season and a big thank you to all of his sponsors for their support during the year including, Galvin Green, PING, Farmfoods, Footlabs, Carus Green and Titleist amongst others.
