In more ways than one this weeks events which sees the European Tour return after a weeks rest, provides the players with a great opportunity to prepare for the Ryder Cup 2014, to be hosted at Gelneagles. Not only will the players play the course that will play host to the event in little over a years time but it is the last full event before the Ryder Cup points race kicks off next week at the Wales Open, hosted by Celtic manor, the scene of such drama in 2010, the last time Europe hosted the Ryder Cup.

Champions of Golf have four players competing this week including a previous Johnnie Walker Championship winner and a European Tour winner from this season. Matthew Southgate has only ever played in this event once previously as he made his full debut on the Euroepan Tour last year, an impressive top 40 finish was a great confidence boost for Matthew at the time and he will be hoping to take that impetous back with him to Gleneagles this week.

Currently residing in 68th position on the Race to Dubai Graeme Storm is another Champions of Golf player in Scotland this week. With a top 3 finish already under his belt in 2013 and three top 10 finishes at this event previously, including a 2nd place in 2008, Graeme will tee off on Thursday in his first round keen to cement his place in the season ending Tour Championships in Dubai.

The remaining two players are 2007 Johnnie Walker Championship winner Marc Warren and 2013 Nelson Mandela Championship presented by ISPS Handa winner Scott Jamieson. Both scotsmen relish the opportunity to compete on home soil and for Marc especially the good memories of his playoff victory in 2007 as well as his recent tied 12th finish at the US PGA Championship will stand him in good stead heading into this week. Both players currently occupy positions in the top 25 of the European Tour Race to Dubai order of merit and will feature in the season ending World Championships.
