The Lord’s Taverners announced as Official 2018 Farmfoods European Senior Masters charity

Disability sports charity The Lord’s Taverners have come on board as the official Farmfoods European Senior Masters charity for the 2018 tournament.

As the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity, the Farmfoods European Senior Masters are delighted to welcome The Lord’s Taverners to the fold for the second edition at the Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel & Country Club this year.

Tournament Director Lloyd Bailey said: “It’s a pleasure to bring The Lord’s Taverners in as our official charity for next year’s Farmfoods European Senior Masters.

“2018 looks set to build upon the foundations of a fantastic first tournament, and being able to work with such a fine charity is exciting for everyone involved.”

The Lord’s Taverners was founded in 1950 at the Tavern pub at Lord’s Cricket Ground, and has gone on to grow to 4,500 members. 2016 saw the charity deliver over 1 million new sporting chances to young boys and girls across the UK, including giving 45,000 children the chance to enjoy cricket through community programmes, among plenty of other activity.

Past presidents including leading lights from the entertainment world in Sir Terry Wogan and Ronnie Corbett, and royalty with The Prince of Wales and HRH The Prince Edward. Current president, legendary broadcaster Sir Michael Parkinson has been in the role since 2015.

Matthew Hayes, Managing Director of event organisers Champions (UK) plc, said: “The Lord’s Taverners do incredible work all across the country to give children a sporting chance in their communities and we’re delighted to welcome them to the Farmfoods European Senior Masters.”

The inaugural Farmfoods European Senior Masters was won by Welshman Stephen Dodd, in a fiercely contested event at the Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel & Country Club last month. As the first tournament of its kind in the Midlands for over a decade, the Staysure Tour event saw thousands of spectators flock to the Birmingham-based course to see golfing heroes such as 2014’s Ryder Cup winning captain Paul McGinley, 1991 Masters champion Ian Woosnam OBE and tournament host Peter Baker participate.
