Magical Madeira is number 1500 on the European Tour

This week sees the European Tour come home after its three week stretch in Asia playing in Malaysia, China and Singapore. As the tour returns to Europe, heading to Madeira, Portugal, it celebrates its 1,500th official event another milestone that will be surpassed at the wonderful Club de Golf do Santo da Serra resort.

Ricardo Santos, two years ago, became the first Portuguese player to win a European Tour event on home soil as he lifted the Madeira Islands Open title, before going on to also become the recipient of the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award in 2012. A feat that was remarkably equalled by the man who succeeded him as the champion in 2013 who once again claimed the Madeira title and the Rookie of the Year award, both outstanding achievements.

With the Madeira Island Open event also counting on the official Challenge Tour rankings for the season it is doubly important for those looking to graduate to the Race to Dubai in 2015 and so those players must grasp this opportunity. Amongst those players looking for a strong week are Champions of Golf professionals Scott Henry, Jason Palmer and Scott Arnold.

All three players made the cut at their most recent outing, the Challenge de Catalunya and will be hoping to improve on their finishes and cement their positions on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit and also the official Race to Dubai Order of Merit.

You can watch the live action unfold throughout the week on Sky Sports, and follow the live scoring directly on the European Tour website at www.europeantour.com.
