For the past several years whilst in the 'off season', Gary, keen to keep game sharp has competed in the PGA North Overseas Pro-Am in Vilamoura, Portugal. Playing with fellow Carus Green Golf Club members, this Golf Escapes sponsored event sees the teams compete over some of the most recognised and prestigious courses in the area, Oceanico Old Course, Quinta do Lago South, Quinta do Lago Laranjal, Monte Rei and Oceanico Victoria courses.
Gary finished level par for his four competitive rounds as an individual, despite a disappointing four over par final day he still finished second on his own behind eventual winner David Shacklady who was eight under, these were the only two players at level par or better from the whole field of 22 players.

Alongside his strong team of Carus Green bandits, Gary also took silver medal in the team event, losing out by 5 shots but beating third by nine!
