Champions of Golf professional Scott Jamieson narrowly missed out on writing his name into the European Tour history books after a third round 60 at the Portugal Masters.

Having only made the cut by a single stroke Scott was well behind the second round leader, however a scintilating thrid round of 11 under par without a single bogey, but included birdies at the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 13th, 16th and 17th, gave Scott that chance to shoot that illusive round of 59.

A score that has never been achieved in European Tour history was on the cards as Scott also found the fairway off the 18th tee, the mostdifficult hole on the golf course. A crisp iron into the green just ran off the back edge and the delightful touch of the chip deserved see the ball the finish in the hole however it didnt quite take the break and the Scotsman finished agonisingly close, no more than a few inches away from the hole, eventually tapping in for a tour equalling lowest round of 60.

Scott commented: "I said to Richard (his caddie) playing 17 I really want to make a birdie here so we have a chance of it going down the last and I could not have asked to hit a better shot in. It pitched just short of the hole...what a chip as well!

"When I birdied the 13th I said to Richard then 'A few more and we could be part of history'. I was definitely nervous but thinking about it from the tournament point of view the leaders are going to be a minimum of 16, 17 maybe 18 under going into tomorrow (Sunday) so that kept me going."

"I felt like I have been playing well for a while, a few good rounds in there. Yesterday (Friday) I didn't necessarily play poorly, just didn't score well so it was nice today."

Scott is two shots behind Englishman Paul Waring as they head into the final round of the 2013 Portugal Masters on Sunday, but in the final group alongside Paul, Scott will be hoping to pile on the pressure early and make a charge for his second European Tour trophy of the year after claiming the first title of the 2013 season, the inaugural Nelson Mandela CHampionship presented by ISPS Handa in South Africa.

To follow all of the live action unfold tune in to Sky SPorts from 2pm UK time on Sunday 13th October.

Good luck Scott!
