Seniors Schedule Starts in Sharjah

This week marks the return of the European Seniors Tour for the 2017 season. The Sharjah Senior Golf Masters presented by Shurooq at the Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club will present a unique challenge that hasn’t been seen before on either the Senior or full European Tour. The course is a nine hole course that will be played twice on competition days, however the tees on the 3rd, 4th, 6th and 8th hole will change on each 'round' of the course. Not only a change of yardage but a change of angle into the holes will face the 57 man field featuring all of last years top 20 players on the European Senior Tour Order of Merit including Champions of Golf professionals Paul Boradhurst and Gary Wolstenholme MBE. Both Paul and Gary will be hoping to come home with the €59,551 paid to the winner from the €400,000 total prize fund, but most importantly the inaugural Sharjah Senior Golf Masters trophy. .

The first event of the European Senior Tour season is always an exciting time for all tour professionals and none more so than our very own Paul Broadhurst who is looking to defend the John Jacobs Trophy, for topping the Order of Merit, he won last year. Paul will feel in a confident mood having come off a very successful start to the year over in America including a T4th place finish at the Allianz Championship in February. The current Senior Open Champion will be looking to continue his sparkling form since joining the Senior tour and we wish Paul all the best in Sharjah and for the rest of the season ahead.

Gary has put himself in the best possible place to help prepare for this weeks upcoming event. He flew out to the United Arab Emirates almost a week earlier than normal to take advantage of the warm weather and first class practice facilities at Jumeirah Golf Estates. This coupled with playing earlier in the year in Portugal will hopefully provide Gary with the ideal preparation to hit the ground running when he tees off on Thursday morning at 07:40 UK time. We look forward to following Gary's progress both in Sharjah and for the rest on the 2017 season.

Good luck to Paul and Gary!
