While the golf season is winding up for the year, Jacklin Design continues to go from strength to strength. Set up to harness Tony’s innate talent for course design, the Jacklin Design Group is behind some of the world’s most forward-thinking and nuanced golf courses. After a lovely opening ceremony on Monday 24th October, The Tony Jacklin Marrakech was added to those ranks.
Tony jetted out to Morocco to join Mr Mostafa Zein, Director of the Moroccan Golf Federation, and representatives of the North African country’s leading golf course developer, Prestigia Golf, as they marked the opening of an incredible new course.
Six years in the pipeline and the product of another collaboration between Tony and Marco Martin of Sterling Martin Architects, The Tony Jacklin Marrakech complements the Argan Golf Resort with its sculpted landscape and endless ornamental bougainvillea vines.
And with the iconic Atlas Mountains as a backdrop, the course is already talked of as one of the most picturesque on this side of the Atlantic, the 16th hole, for example, being likened to the famous Players’ Championship 17th at Sawgrass.
Tony was honoured to hit a ceremonial drive from the first tee in front of the gathered international media, kicking off an inaugural tournament with over 100 participants. After a great day’s play, he served as the gracious host of a prize giving event, where he congratulated competitors and spoke of the core principles involved in the course’s design.
His second signature Moroccan venture after The Tony Jacklin Casablanca, the Marrakech course has a range of plots available for purchase and development.
