Gary hoping for Italian job in Udine

The European Senior Tour returns to Italy next month for the sixth edition of the Italian Senior Open presented by Villaverde Hotel & Resort, at Golf Club Udine from October 21-23. The Tour hasn’t been in Italy since 2008 and this marks a significant reinvestment back in the golf market from a country that has produced many prolific golfing talents across the decades including Ryder Cup players, the Molinari brothers.

This is the 12th event of The Ryder Cup 2022 Project, and will close the Italian professional season which has seen a number of national and international tournaments, including the recent Italian Open, won for the second time by home favourite Francesco Molinari.

A field of 54 Senior Tour players will vie for €350,000, the winner taking home €52,500, as former Ryder Cup stars David Gilford, Barry Lane and Philip Walton, join one of Italy’s most famous golfing sons, Costantino Rocca in Fagagna.

This weeks event is the penultimate event on the European Senior Tour and will be a major determining factor in the Order of Merit rankings, finalised after the MCB Tour Championships in Mauritius later in December.

Currently 15th on the European Senior Tour Order of Merit, Gary is in a very strong position to retain his playing privileges for the forthcoming 2017 season however a good result in Italy and a strong showing at one of his favourite venues in Mauritius will make all the difference.

To follow Gary’s live scoring throughout the week from Italy log onto the European Senior Tour website at www.europeantour.com/seniortour which will have live leaderboard updates from the first round on Friday and over the weekend.

As always a big thank you to all of Gary’s sponsors including Farmfoods, Carus Green and BioFlow Sports who have just supplied Gary with a range of new wristbands.
