Tony Jacklin CBE has long been regarded as one of the most iconic golfers on the planet having won two majors, captained Europe to Ryder Cup glory on three occasions and been the catalyst behind the formation of the European Tour as well as becoming a Hall of Fame inductee, however in recent years Tony spends more time away from the course than on it.
Whilst still an avid follower of the game, and surely with one eye on the Ryder Cup committee's decision today as they announce the European Ryder Cup captain for the 2016 installment later today (Wednesday 18th February 2015), Tony now enjoys depicting the games great and good in wood, his new passion is marquetry. A little known highly intricate skill, marquetry involves layering and inlaying veneers of wood to create an overall image and in Tony's case often golf related however his repertoire extends to stars of stage and screen, music and beyond including Maralyn Monroe, Seve Ballesteros, Winston Churchill and Princess Diana. As well as the familiar faces from around the world, Tony can also do custom made pieces for the special person in your life just from a photograph for a truly unique gift.
This new hobby has brought Tony much joy and he shared his passion for it in a recent documentary filmed at his home in Florida with IMG and Golfing World which if you missed it can be found at:
